Understanding Car Negotiation

THE DEFINITION OF A REBATE:
Noun, a lowering of a price.
SYNONYMS: abatement,
deduction, discount, markdown

WHAT IS A
PRIVATE REBATE ?

A PRIVATE REBATE IS A DISCOUNT
THAT IS ONLY VALID FOR THE PEOPLE
TARGETTED TO RECEIVE THE REBATE

EXAMPLES INCLUDE:

  1. OWNER LOYALTY REBATE
Anyone who OWNS a vehicle of the same make will receive an additional rebate to purchase or lease another vehicle of the same make.
  2. OFF- LEASE RENEWAL REBATE
Anyone who is terminating a leased vehicle of the same make and who renews into the same make of vehicle either purchase or lease will receive an additional rebate.
  3. EARLY BIRD LEASE TERMINATION
This is when the Vehicle Manufacturer offers to pay your remaining lease payments if you agree to purchase or lease another new vehicle of the same make. This is a DIRECT MAIL program sent to your address by the Vehicle Manufacturer NOT THE DEALERSHIP! The offer may be anywhere from 2 payments to 9 payments. However, most manufacturers prorate the mileage of the original lease. This means if you originally had a 36 month lease with 36,000 miles total and you take advantage of this offer to come out 6 months early, any mileage over 30,000 will be subject to excessive mileage charges.
    (this is actually very fair)
PLEASE NOTE: If other New Car Dealerships of the SAME VEHICLE MANUFACTURER ARE NOT OFFERING THE SAME PROGRAM then chances are the one Dealer who is telling you that your payments will be waived IS NOT TELLING YOU THE ENTIRE TRUTH. If you only have 2 or 3 payments left on your leased vehicle and the Car Dealership is telling you that they are WAIVING your last payments. What they are really doing is building the cost of those payments into the price of the New Vehicle (which YOU are paying) and then sending those 2 or 3 payments to the Manufacturer to terminate the lease.
  4. MILITARY APPRECIATION
Anyone who is currently in the Active U.S. Military, Reserves or Retired Military qualifies to receive an additional rebate above and beyond all other rebates.
  5. MEMBERS OF “SPECIAL GROUPS”
Special Groups as determined by the vehicle manufacturer such as: AARP, AAA, USTA, USGA, College Graduate, College Students, American Legend, etc.
  6. EMPLOYEE PURCHASE PLAN
Any employee who works for a vehicle manufacturer or a new car dealership qualifies to receive the employee discount. THIS IS THE LOWEST PRICE ANYONE CAN EVER RECEIVE. The manufacturer sets the employee price of all vehicles in advance and prints it on the vehicle invoice. The employee actually pays LESS than the new car dealership ($1,000 to $2,000 less). The manufacturer pays the new car dealership a commission for selling the vehicle at the fixed price. The amount of the commission is the difference between the invoice price and the employee price (this pays the dealership the money lost by selling it below invoice) PLUS a bonus percentage based on that manufacturers formula for an employee plan.
  7. VENDOR PURCHASE PLAN
A Vendor is a company who does business with the vehicle manufacturer. Basically it works the same as the EMPLOYEE DISCOUNT. The Vendor price is listed on the vehicle invoice except the price is higher then the employee price. The Vendor price is usually $100 under invoice which is still a very competitive price in the market place
